The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental will hold for the first time a Negros Food Fair and Mayflower Festival at the Panaad Park and Stadium on May 27-29, 2011. Expect a gastronomic treat as you taste the best local cuisine in the different towns and cities in Negros Occidental.
Food sufficiency is one of the priorities of Governor Marañon’s administration in its NEGROS FIRST development plan. This is also the theme of the Panaad sa Negros 2011. With the Negros Food Fair, the provincial government is encouraging the different LGUs to promote local dishes which uses local ingredients.
The festival will open with a Flores de Mayo with girls in colorful gowns. Flores de Mayo or Mayflower Festival is a Filipino tradition celebrated throughout the country every month of May in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
On the last day of the festival, there will be a Santacruzan which will have the Lin-ay sang Negros candidates as sagalas. The Santacruzan is also a Filipino tradition held every May which commemorates Reyna Elena’s search for the Holy Cross.
The Negros Food Fair and Mayflower festival coincides with the National Games also held at the Panaad Park to be held on May 22 to 29, 2011.
