A total of 15 barangays and 11 schools are joining the 2017 MassKara Festival street and arena dance competitions on October 21-22.
The barangays are: 5, 7, 8, 15, 18, 26, 29, 39, 40, Alijis, Banago, Mandalagan, Pahanocoy, Punta Taytay, and Tangub. Last year’s champion was Brgy. Granada, with Brgy. Tangub as 1st runner-up, Brgy. Banago—2nd runner-up, and Brgy. Pahanocoy as 3rd runner-up.
The participating elementary schools, with one school per district, are: Banago Elementary School II (District I), Bata ES II (District II), Mabini ES (District III), Handumanan ES I (District IV), Luis Puentevella ES (District V), Education and Training Center School (ETCS)- I (District VI) and Mariano G. Medalla Integrated School (District VII).
The secondary schools, with one school per unit, are: Domingo Lacson National High School (Unit I), Romanito Maravilla NHS (Unit II), Bacolod City NHS (Unit III), and Paglaum NHS (Unit IV).
There will be separate winners for the elementary and secondary schools categories.
The streetdance schools category is a partnership between the Silver MassKara Festival Organization and the Department of Education—Division of Bacolod City.
The schools competitions will be on Oct. 21 (Saturday), while the barangay competitions will be on Oct. 22 (Sunday).
The street competition will start along Lizares-Araneta Streets at 3 p.m., while the arena competition at the Public Plaza will start at 4 p.m. The street and arena dance competitions is one of the highlights of the annual MassKara Festival, slated Oct. 1-22 this year.*
