What does Lebron James have in common with The Pastry Shop of Bob’s and Sugarland Hotel? He didn’t drop by Bacolod during his Witness History tour, did he? Well no, but Isabel Gatuslao who happens to be the designer of the logo of The Pastry Shop of Bob’s and Sugarland Hotel, designed one of his Lebron X shoes. And yes, she’s from Bacolod.
Graphic designer Isabel Gatuslao is the only female among designers chosen to design a custom Lebron X shoes in his Witness History tour in the Philippines. When I saw it on TV, the name seemed familiar. Aside from she’s obviously from Negros because of her family name, I remember visiting her site through a link shared by Lee Santiago.
Her portfolio is very impressive. She has designed the logos of some of the top personalities and companies in the country. Her designs are very sophisticated and very classy. She really takes time to know the company she’s working on in order to create a brand identity that reflects what the company wants to convey to the public. Her design process is posted on her blog so for a non-artist like me, you get to understand where she get her inspirations from.
I’m not a basketball fan so sorry if I don’t share the excitement for Lebron James. But still, I find it cool that a Negrense designed one of his Lebron X shoes. He must have liked the design too since it was the only design featured in his website from among the designs during his Manila visit. Besides, how many shoes does he have with a lion’s head? The overall design is simply “ma-angas”. Ms. Gatuslao named the shoe “Digno De Un Rey” which means “fit for a king” in Spanish. Indeed, it is.
