The Bulawan Awards is an annual product design and competition which recognizes outstanding products by the members of the Association of Negros Producers (ANP). I attended the opening at the Robinsons Place Bacolod where the Bulawan Awards entries will be exhibited from July 23-27, 2014.
This year, the ANP celebrates the 24th Bulawan Awards with the theme “Smile Beyond Borders,” and aims to help the survivors of the super typhoon Yolanda. ANP members tapped the survivors as subcontractors, and suppliers. This assistance will not be dole-outs since ANP members also taught the typhoon survivors with basic skills to start their own livelihood to help them get on their feet without feet without depending too much on external help.
Bulawan Awards 2014 Has a New Trophy
This year’s Bulawan Awards will feature a new trophy designed and executed by Jojo Vito Designs Gallery. According to Jojo Vito, the mother mould of the trophy was crafted from the real limestone taken from Sagay City. When I asked him what the elements of the trophy symbolizes, he said:
The gold symbolizes ANP’s commitment for design excellence , innovation and the ability of negrenses to create high value products out of ordinary materials. The curve lime/swirl symbolizes the evolution of our product from simple handicraft into something that is high value,high-design and market driven product
There will be winners for each category: fashion and jewelry; gifts and house wares; furniture and furnishings; and food. Special awards will also be given namely, best in design excellence; best in craftsmanship, best in visual impact and, best in the use of indigenous material from Yolanda-stricken areas.
