Bacolod based NGO AID Foundation, Inc. (AIDFI) is one of the 12 finalists in the BBC World Challenge for its Hydraulic Ram Pump. The World Challenge is an international competition aimed at finding “projects or small businesses from around the world that have shown enterprise and innovation at the grassroots level”.
The Hydraulic Ram Pump was chosen among others from the 800 entries around the world. Without electricity and fuel and relying only on gravity, the ram pump makes use of energy contained in falling water through conversion of velocity of water to pressure in order to pump a portion of the water to a great height. Although the Ram Pump is not a new technology, AIDFI modified it and made it more efficient. AIDFI has already been installed in 170 upland communities benefiting around 50,000 people.
Voting is until November 11, 2010 so let’s all help AID Foundation win the award by voting and campaigning for them. Click the image below to vote for AID Foundation.
