Megaworld, the country’s largest developer of integrated urban townships is developing two townships in Negros Occidental, 34-hectare The Upper East and 50-hectare Northill Gateway. The company committed to invest P35-B to develop these townships in 10 years. Since the company announced these good news in 2015, we can already see the two township taking shape. If we take a look at how Megaworld develops its other townships, we can expect a lot of exciting things to happen in Bacolod in the coming years.
Booming IT-BPM Industry
Bacolod is already in the international radar of IT-BPM locators and is already a center of excellence when it comes to IT-BPM. Current workers in the industry is estimated at 30,000 and Megaworld is planning to double this number with the construction of two office towers at The Upper East with 17,000 sqm floor area.
With this opportunity, more Negrenses will opt to stay and work in Bacolod, closer to their families.
More Robust Business Sector
The IT-BPM industry is really a big boost to the economy of Bacolod. The industry has a ripple effect in other industries such as real estate, food, and retail. The expected increase in the number of IT-BPM workers will also increase economic activities in Bacolod and Negros Occidental.
A Model of Green Business
Megaworld is building its townships to become a model of green business by employing sustainable designs which are not yet used by other developers in Bacolod. Megaworld’s hotels will also have its own organic garden and what they can’t grow will be sourced locally which will have a big impact in the local producers.
World Class Amenities in Bacolod
Bacolod City is being promoted as a destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conference, and Exhibitions (MICE). However, Bacolod is still lacking in the number of rooms needed for huge international MICE events. International branded hotels with facilities and amenities that are at par with international standards are also lacking in Bacolod. Look at how Iloilo City is booming with the developments at Megaworld’s Iloilo Business Park.
Community Involvement
I love how Megaworld involves the local community by hosting events such as bazaars, concerts, and trade fairs. They also help preserve and promote the local arts, heritage and culture.
With all these developments, life in Negros Occidental will indeed become sweeter.
