Negrense tops Philippine Military Academy Masaligan Class 2021

A 25-year-old Negrense graduated summa cum laude and class valedictorian of the Philippine Military Academy “Masaligan” Class of 2021. Cadet First Class Janrey Artus, who hails from San Enrique, Negros Occidental, will be joining the Philippine Navy. 

Artus was a taking up Chemical Engineering at the University of the Philippines – Visayas and was a DOST Junior Level Science Scholar before he joined the PMA.

PMA “MASALIGAN” (MAndirigmang SAmahan na Lakas at SandIGAN ng Bayan) Class of 2021 is comprised of 138 males and 26 females. “Masaligan” also means “trustworthy, reliable, and honorable” in Hiligaynon, the primary spoken language in Negros Occidental.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson earlier extended his congratulatory messafe to Cadet 1CL Janrey Artus.

Today is a proud moment for the Province of Negros Occidental as one of its sons from San Enrique, Cadet First Class Janrey Cabanero Artus of the Philippine Military Academy Masaligan Class of 2021 graduated Summa Cum Laude and Class Valedictorian.

To Cadet First Class Janrey Cabanero Artus, our warmest congratulations. Graduating from the Philippine Military Academy is remarkable in itself, but you tested your limits and emerged top of your class. With this feat, you will be an exemplar and an inspiration to all the Negrenses, particularly to our youth.

It is also noteworthy that the name of your Class, Masaligan, of which you are the front runner, means trustworthy, reliable, and honorable in our local language. With this, I hope that you will fully embrace such honor through your fervent commitment and allegiance to our people and Constitution.

Again, Congratulations, and may the good Lord be with you as you heed the honorable call to serve GOD and country

Aside from graduating summa cum laude and class valedictorian, Artus will receive 15 other special awards. Among these recognitions are the Presidential Saber award, for being number one in the list of graduating cadets, and the Philippine Navy Saber for being the top cadet who will join the navy.

Also in this year’s top 10 are Cadet First Class Daryl Brix Ramos Colita (2) of Malalag town in Davao del Sur; Cadet First Class Valerie Mae Dicang, (3) of La Trinidad town in Benguet; Cadet First Class Jan Hernan Perez (4) of Alabang in Muntinlupa City; Cadets First Class Christine Joyce Andog of Cabanatuan City (5), who is graduating as cum laude; FelJoy Ending of Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental (6); Harold Mars Sastado of Batangas (7); Pamela Avila Calleja of Malinao, Albay (8); Michael Angelo Madriaga of Tabuk City, Kalinga; and cum laude Shirly Fatima de Guia Lim of Tacloban City (10).
