I live in Bacolod East Area and I’m glad that there’s a Grand Royal Spa at Villa Angela Arcade, less than 10 minutes away from home. This branch opened only last year whereas the Grand Royal Spa in 6th Street opened in 2007.
Ms. Vicky Que, the owner of Grand Royal Spa shared that back then, spas were not as mainstream as today. It was sometimes thought of in the same league as those seedy massage parlors. Today, the industry is already professionalized with the stakeholders binding together to form the Spa Alliance of Negros Occidental (SPAN). Ms. Vicky Que is also the President of SpaN said their members train and monitor their therapists regularly and by 2014, all massage therapists are required to have a license as mandated by the Department of Health.
Grand Royal Spa is lcoated on the second floor of Villa Angela Arcade. Its interior is cozy and relaxing with a fusion of Balinese, Thai and Filipino architecture. Grand Royal Spa has 21 massage beds, 3 couple room, 1 barkada room (4 persons), 1 TV Room (5 recliners), 1 Foot Lounge (6 recliners) and a sauna each for men and women.
The growing number of spas in Bacolod is probably an indication that people are getting more concerned with their health. Our body can take just about enough stress that we need to relieve ourselves from it regularly otherwise it will come out into different sorts of stress-related illnesses. I sound ominous, but really, even the Romans and Greeks bath in certain springs for physical and spiritual purification. In my case, a visit to the spa is to relieve stress and to bond with friends that’s why we chose the barkada room for our body massage.
